Skin: the biggest organ

Skin, the biggest organ in the body, is very much an important organ as it protects everything inside the body. Skin allows to have a sense of touch and also maintains the temperature.

Here lets see what makes the Skin. Melanin is the substance that gives colour to the skin.

Skin consists of three layers – Epidermis, Dermis and Subcutaneous.

The outer most layer is the Epidermis and it is the part that we can see. The Epidermis is where the hairs opens and also the sweat glands open into.

Below the Epidermis is the Dermis. This layer consists of nerve endings, oil glands, blood vessels and sweat and oil glands.

The third layer is the Subcutaneous one, which is the bottom most layer. This layer consists of fat and helps the body stay warm. It also acts as a shock absorber. This is where the hair follicles emerge.
